Hoops Not Hate

Developed in partnership with the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cleveland and the Cleveland Unit for the Reduction of Violence, a straight-talking programme that opens up conversation about knife and violent crime in an age-appropriate way.

Our education session is very much discussion based and student-led, opening up a conversation about knife and violent crime through:

  • A scenario task exploring what constitutes a knife crime.
  • Reflection on some statistics about knife and violent crime.
  • Cases of young people who have died due to knife crime.
  • Discussion about why people carry knives.
  • An animation which explores prevention / de-escalation strategies
  • Information on the law and procedure.
  • Reflection on potential outcomes of positive and negative choices.

Our basketball sessions are very much about learning new skills, having fun and promoting the importance of positive activities in order to avoid getting into negative or potentially dangerous situations.
